BMF Retro Radio with Roxanne Shanté and Mister Cee

The ask

Rock The Bells needed a way to launch STARZ's BMF to a hip hop audience that already trusts its voices. The idea: Roxanne Shanté and Mister Cee, fully in character, bring back her 1986 radio show Have A Nice Day on a fictional Detroit station, WRTB 92.6, and never break the fourth wall.

What we made

A 15 to 20 minute show for the Rock The Bells YouTube channel, plus social cutdowns, shot in one day at Dubway Studios in New York.

The look is late 1980s found footage: period wardrobe, hair and makeup, station graphics and a news ticker. Big Daddy Kane calls in, the hosts play the hits, and they warn listeners about a new crew taking over the city.

Results

The show went live September 26, 2021, the same night BMF premiered on STARZ.
